Shindig Magazine – March-April 2009 Issue
The latest issue of Shindig! arrived on my weather-worn doormat today and, as ever, the standard of this excellent magazine is exceptionally high.
For those that don’t know, Shindig! is a bi-monthly magazine specialising in – to quote their own tagline – “Psych, Garage, Beat, Powerpop, Soul, Folk… For People Who Want More!” But mainly psychedelic, progressive and underground tunage.
It can be sought out in branches of WH Smiths, or if like me you’re too idle to leave the house, subscribed to right here.
The latest issue has features on the psychedelic years of long-running music stalwarts The Pretty Things; Underground icon and founder of Soft Machine, Kevin Ayers; Funk/soul legends Funkadelic and the release of a previously unreleased 1971 session album; Alice Cooper’s forgotten garage years; A tribute to Oliver Postgate and much more, including reviews of all the latest reissues for lovers of the underground sound.
Still printed on quality paper, when other mags are cutting costs (with their covers at least) – It’s Hip! It’s Happening! It’s… Shindig!
